Where is Lakewood National?

Lakewood National is in the Manatee County part of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, with the clubhouse at 17605 Lakewood National Parkway (ZIP 34211). It lies north of University Parkway, the county line, so homes are assessed by the Manatee County Property Appraiser and served by the School District of Manatee County. On the developer’s village map it sits in the same area as Solera, Cresswind and Lorraine Lakes.

What is Lakewood National?

Lakewood National is a golf-centered village built by Lennar, with about 1,550 homes arranged around two 18-hole championship courses and a golf membership bundled into each home. Lennar opened the first course in January 2017 with the stated plan of making the club mostly private and tied to home ownership. A 2022 report put the village at 1,325 homes sold out of 1,556 planned, and the village is not on the developer’s 2026 list of villages selling new homes, so most purchases today are resale.

The bundled model is the main difference from other golf options here. At Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, membership is a separate private-club decision open to non-residents. At Lakewood National, you buy the home and the membership comes with it. Lennar later used the same bundled model at Calusa Country Club, a newer village with 30 holes.

What are the golf courses like?

Both courses were designed by the Arnold Palmer Design Company: the Commander opened in January 2017 and the Piper was completed in late 2019. Golf Digest lists both courses as private.

Course Opened Designer Length and par Notes
Commander January 2017 Arnold Palmer Design Co. 7,133 yards, par 71 (2026 tournament setup) Hosts the LECOM Suncoast Classic on the Korn Ferry Tour
Piper Late 2019 Arnold Palmer Design Co. About 7,291 yards from the back tees Ranked No. 4 on a GolfPass list of top public courses (2022)

The Commander course has hosted the LECOM Suncoast Classic, a Korn Ferry Tour event, since 2019; the 2026 tournament ran April 2 to 5. In 2022 GolfPass ranked the Commander No. 1 on its list of the top 50 public courses in America. The courses are busy: the club reported more than 100,000 rounds in 2021.

What other amenities are there?

Beyond golf, the club has a large clubhouse, fitness center, spa, lighted clay tennis courts and a beach-entry lagoon pool. Troon, which manages the club, also lists casual dining and full-time sports professionals. Residents can use the wider Lakewood Ranch parks and 150-plus miles of trails as well; see our guide to parks, trails and nature preserves, and our golf guide for how Lakewood National compares with other courses.

What types of homes are in Lakewood National?

Lakewood National mixes condos, coach homes and single-family homes, which gives the village a wider price range than most golf communities. Troon describes the housing as 1,547 units in five types, including estate homes, executive homes, Veranda condos and coach homes.

Home type Who it tends to suit
Veranda condos Seasonal residents, downsizers, buyers who want the club at a lower price
Coach homes Buyers who want more space than a condo without a large yard
Executive homes (single-family) Full-time residents and families
Estate homes (single-family) Buyers who want the most space and premium lots

Prices change month to month, so check current listings and recent sales with a local agent and in our quarterly Lakewood Ranch housing market report.

What does living in Lakewood National cost each month?

Plan for HOA dues (which cover the bundled club), a stewardship district assessment on the tax bill, Manatee County property tax and insurance.

  • HOA and club: ask for the current HOA budget and exactly what it covers. Condo buyers also pay condominium association fees, so get both budgets.
  • Stewardship district assessment: Lakewood National is part of the Lakewood Ranch Stewardship District, which has a bond series named “Lakewood National and Polo Run Special Assessments Series 2017A.” The yearly amount varies by home and appears on the property tax bill. Our guide to CDD fees in Lakewood Ranch explains how to find it.
  • Property tax: search the parcel on the Manatee County Property Appraiser site. If you will live here full time, the Florida homestead exemption can lower the bill.
  • Insurance: condo buyers need an HO-6 policy and should check the association’s master policy and reserves. Single-family buyers should ask about roof age and wind mitigation. Our hurricanes, flooding and insurance guide covers both.

Who is Lakewood National best for?

Lakewood National suits golfers who want two championship courses included with the home, and buyers who want a full-service club without a separate membership decision.

It works well for retirees and seasonal residents (condos and coach homes are popular second homes) and for golfing families in single-family homes. It is a weaker fit if you do not play golf and do not want to pay for a club through your dues, if you want brand-new construction, or if you want a 55+ community. For those, compare every Lakewood Ranch village, the 55+ communities guide and Waterside for new homes near a town center.

What should I check before buying in Lakewood National?

Check the club terms, both association budgets, the tax bill and the building’s condition.

  1. Ask how club membership transfers on sale and whether there are separate food minimums, cart fees or capital charges.
  2. Get the HOA budget, and for condos the condominium association budget, reserve study and any special assessments.
  3. Pull the latest tax bill to see the stewardship district line and current property tax.
  4. Check the flood zone and ask for an elevation certificate.
  5. Confirm the zoned schools with the School District of Manatee County; our schools guide explains how.

Buying here as a resale is a different process from buying from a builder; our guide to new construction vs resale compares them. When you are ready, the real estate hub explains how to choose an agent who knows the golf villages.
